The Fisherman's Blog:

artificial reef fishing and diving

Fishing offshore at Cedar Key on a new artificial reef I hooked one of the biggest fish I have ever dreamed of catching. it pulled like nothing else I had ever caught.

Fishing in 45 ft of water off the TLOVE boat 28ft contender CC with twin 200 Yahamas, using live 10 inch pin fish we were doing good with the keeper gag grouper.

Then I hooked up with the hardest pulling fish I have ever hooked.

We were on a reef made of chicken coups and old truck bodies.

This particular fish would fight off the drag and then I could recover most of the excess then out it would run again. After about thirty minutes of fighting this fish i knew the braided 60 lb line might not hold so I decided to free dive and fight the fish into submission with a spear gun I had on board.

Visiblity was 30 ft or so and after making a couple test dives I headed down the line to the bottom and there it was, the biggest rock bass I had ever seen! he had taken my bait and ducked inside on of the old truck bodies and rolled the window up.

Everytime I pulled the line it lifted the truck body, adding to the fish pulling. This was great fun.

I bet Capt. Reinhart has never seen this happen before.
